yegua-yeta-yuta, performance at Museo JUMEX, Mexico City. June 9th, 2018

yegua-yeta-yuta, performance at Museo JUMEX as part of Los efectos de la presión y la súbita expulsión, a group exhibition at Galería Hilario Galguera with Genoveva Álvarez, Mercedes Azpilicueta, Sophie Dupont, Xavier Rodríguez, Manu Sol Mateo, Geo Wyeth.

Curated by Mauricio Limón.

In the form of declamation, Mercedes Azpilicueta recites in a jargon of the Castellano Rioplatense, more than 400 insults directed at women in Argentina. The pronunciation of each insult is disarmed phonetically to such an extent that it becomes an anthropophagic song or an exorcism. In this way, the pejorative meaning of each insult is transmuted vocally, acquiring a new value. For the viewer, the script does not seem to be composed of insults, either because many are slang or lunfardo or, because the words are pronounced and disarmed in such a way that it is not possible to connect them with their usual meaning. The performance oscillates between the script and improvisation. The audience finds itself with a vocal piece at times tragicomic, which invites us to reflect on the inequalities of language and how this is a subtle accomplice of verbal aggression: invisible, gender based violence manifested in our everyday orality.
